My husband surprised me with a weekend in Palm Springs for our anniversary. We did it up medium fancy. We stayed at a four-star hotel - the Lodge at Rancho Mirage - at a discount price. We ate at nice restaurants, had a spa day, and ordered champagne and chocolate-covered strawberries from room service. The valet parked our Nissan next to Porsches, Jaguars, Hummers and BMWs. We were basically the Beverly Hillbillies; interlopers living on the edge of luxury.
